Dark chocolate mielie-meal porridge

Preparation time : 5 min Cooking time : 15 min
  • 2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup mielie-meal
  • 3 Tbs cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbs nut butter
  • 2 Tbs maple syrup
  • 1 tsp butter / coconut oil
  • pinch sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • sliced banana, roughly chopped toasted nuts and nut butter, to serve

Combine the milk, water, mielie-meal and cocoa powder in a saucepan, and whisk until all the lumps have dissolved. You need to do this with the heat off, as you need to stir everything together when it’s still cold. Turn the stove on to a medium-low heat and cook for around 5-10 minutes whilst stirring and scraping the sides and the bottom of the saucepan, to make sure it doesn't stick. Turn off the heat and whisk in the nut butter, maple syrup, butter or coconut oil, salt and cinnamon until everything is combined. Serve immediately topped with sliced banana, toasted nuts and additional nut butter.
