A Ramadaan specialty in many homes in South Africa, phirni is a delicious sweet treat made with Tastee Wheat or semolina, common pantry staples.

Ingredients (7)

4 tbsp tastee wheat — or semolina
4 tbsp condensed milk
4 cup milk
2 tsp mixed nuts — ground
Food colouring
155 g cream — dessert
pistachios — crushed, to garnish

Method:

Make a paste with half a cup of the milk and the Tastee Wheat.

Bring rest of the milk to a boil.

Add paste to the milk and continue to whisk as it thickens.

Add the condensed milk, ground nuts and cardamom.

Remove from heat and cool completely.

Add the dessert cream and colouring.

Pour into dessert bowls and decorate with crushed pistachios.
