Sweet and smoky Rooibos BBQ dry rub mix

What says a South African summer better than a gathering around the braai? And this flavour-filled BBQ dry rub mix will make any braai feast one to remember.

Preparation time : 7 min
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs smokey salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbs smoked paprika
  • 2 tsp chilli flakes
  • 4 Tbs rooibos (remove leaves from teabags)
  • 2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp pepper, ground
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp all spice, ground

Place all the ingredients into a mortar and grind with a pestle until smooth and well combined.

Store in an airtight container until ready to use.

You can use this mix as a dry rub on red meat, chicken, seafood, veggies, tofu, corn on the cob, or just sprinkle on already grilled veggies.
